DIY Halloween Projects for Kids

October 22, 2020 by The Rock Place Leave a Comment

If you’re looking for some Halloween party inspiration, you’ve come to the right place! Continue reading for creative craft ideas that are sure to wow your kids and their friends!

1. Painted Rocks

Painted rocks are so easy and fun to make and there are truly endless possibilities! You may choose to paint the rocks in your own backyard, or if you’re looking for more of a smooth finish head to our stone yard and pick some up yourself!

Supplies needed:

  • Rocks
  • Markers for more precise detail
  • Paint brush. One with a larger square edge tip works best!
  • Sealer

Before you begin painting your rocks, ensure you have the correct paint. You’ll want to use acrylic paint, (which is best to use when painting rocks). Arteza brand paint is best to use, because it is thicker and will require less coats. This brand is a bit more expensive, but it’s definitely worth the price! You may also use markers for more precise detail! When you are finished painting your rocks, let them dry. Once they dry you will want to seal your painted rocks, as stones are porous and the designs will not hold up as well over time. You can use brush on sealers, but I think spray on works the best! Krylon’s UV-Resistent Spray on sealer works great on painted rocks. Once you seal your rocks and let them dry, you’re good to go and are free to display these rocks or let your kids play with their new creations!

2. Painted Mason Jars

Another fun and easy project are painted mason jars! There is a reason these jars are all over Pinterest! Their durable quality and versatility make them perfect for crafts such as this!

What you’ll need:

  • Mason jars
  • Paint
  • Stencils
  • Markers

Before you begin painting, ensure you have the right paint! When painting mason jars, use acrylic paint! You can find this paint at your local craft store or online! You may be skilled enough to paint your jars freehand, but if you’re not, grab a few festive stencils and go to town! Once you’re done painting, let the jars sit out for a few hours or until paint is completely dry.

3. Miniature Garden

Miniature gardens are so unique and fun to create!

What you’ll need:

  • Planter box
  • Turf (real or artificial)
  • Halloween figurines
  • Popsicle sticks
  • String
  • Fake trees
  • Wood

To create your own miniature garden, you’ll first need to add turf to your planter box, and then place wood, grass, and fake trees where you desire. You can then create fencing from popsicle sticks and string. The fence can be adding on the inside rim of the planter box. Once you are done building your garden, you can then stage the Halloween figurines! Now go display your garden in your home!
