It’s getting cooler outside, and we want you to be able to take advantage of this beautiful weather and spend some time outdoors with that special someone in your life! We have compiled a list of fun projects for both of you to do, that will allow for quality time together and creative additions to your backyard!
1. Outdoor Movie Theater
This backyard edition will be sure to turn your house into the “fun house”!
What you’ll need:
- PVC Pipe (size depends on how large you want the screen)
- Projector
- Rope
- Outdoor Cushions
- Snacks!
For the screen, you can either go a DIY route with materials you likely already have in your home, or you can purchase a screen. If you go the DIY route, you will simply just need a white sheet. If you would rather use something sturdier, you can purchase a portable projection screen on Amazon or a local retailer such as Home Depot. To hang the projector, you will need to use rope to hang your PVC pipe. You can attach this to a nearby tree or pole. For seating, you can use outdoor cushions or a quilt you don’t mind to get dirty! Once you have your screen and seating in place, grab your favorite movie snacks and enjoy some quality time with friends and family!
2. Texas Flower Planter
Texas flower planters are all the rage and we can see why! These planters will add that touch of rustic flare to your patio that you’ve been looking for!
Supplies needed:
- Whiskey Barrels
- 4X4X6 or 4X4X8 Post
- Quikrete (concert mix)
- Potting Soil
- Flowers
- String Lights
Step 1 of this great DIY project is to mix Quikrete and prepare to pour it in the whiskey barrel. Once the Quickrete is mixed, pour roughly 6-8 inches at the bottom of the whiskey barrel and set the post into barrel. You will need to prop, or hold the post in place as the Quickrete hardens. After it hardens, you will pour potting soil on top and plant the flowers. After you have done this, you will hang string lights from the poles you created!
3. Stepping Stones
Stepping stones are an easy DIY project that the whole family can enjoy! Adding these stones to your yard will add the perfect amount of originality and creativity to your outdoor space!
What you’ll need:
- Quikrete (concrete mix)
- Pebbles, sea glass, or other stones of your choosing.
- Mold forms
- Sticky contact paper
A plain stepping stone offers a little form and function, but a few add-ins such as glass tiles or bits of polished sea glass give it even more style. Create a mosaic-style design or simple pattern out of pebbles or glass tiles using the reverse casting method — set your design elements face-up inside the mold, press a sheet of sticky contact paper, cut to the size of the mold over them, then flip the contact paper over inside the mold so the sticky part faces up, with your add-ins stuck to the paper. After your poured Quickrete hardens and you remove the stone from the mold, peel the contact paper away to reveal your design. If you prefer to just add a few details after you’ve poured the cement, arrange your findings on top of the wet cement after it sits for at least 45 minutes. Then voila! It is now time to place these beautiful stepping stones in your backyard!
